Amazingly Brilliant Free Stock Image Sites

Amazingly Brilliant Free Stock Image Sites

Finding good free stock images to use with no copyright infringements can be hard. And with this Judge Judy culture of suing everyone in court, you wouldn’t dare risk using images you weren’t 100% sure were royalty free. ‘There’s always Google images’, I hear you say… Actually Google doesn’t cut it any more image wise. Especially when you have to change the usage rights and license agreements. Then all of a sudden those nice, lovely images you were just looking at, that were perfect to use for your project. Change into ugly, irrelevant, random crap basically. You know the kinda images I’m on about…those kinds you find after you have lent your niece or nephew your phone to ‘play a game’. You get your phone back…memory almost full…image gallery full…full of lovely Wolfgang Tillmans-esq style photos of random mundane things…like the carpet…a shoe…all of course with the token thumb or finger covering half the lens…

But anyway, back on track. It’s those kinda images that you find on Google that are free in price and royalty, so it’s very hard to find the perfect images for projects that you can legally use. But fear not my friends, hope is not lost in finding the perfect royalty free images you can use. After a lot of searching and stalking of the internet… I have found some amazing websites that have fabulously beautiful images with no copy write infringements and even in some cases no attribution. Below is a list of what I think is the world’s best free stock image websites for designers and everyone else that is in desperate need for quality free images.

Pixabay – One of my favourites, as it has an array of different kinds of high quality images, from scenery to product shots, perfect for any person, and the majority of images don’t require attribution.

New Old Stock – This site is full of old, antique photos, many of which are taken by government agencies or discovered in house sales. Great for when you need old photos and vintage imagery.

I hope this list can be of help to people. Being a graphic designer, you can be strapped for time during projects and don’t necessarily have the time or resources to take professional looking imagery. You find yourself spending hours upon hours, time wasting by searching the internet for acceptable imagery. The above sites contain an amount of highly amazing, beautiful, quality images free for use and most with no need for attribution. These sites are a godsend for a designer. So next time try these brilliant sites instead of wasting time on Google for images designers!! (also…don’t be mean…buy them a coffee if the options there..) 🙂
